This cache is part of a series intended to showcase Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads (W.R.R.). Wisconsin Legislature established the Rustic Roads program in 1973 to preserve what remains of Wisconsin's scenic, lightly traveled roads.
These caches are usually hidden in the right of way at a spot of notable beauty with no bushwhacking required. Please be respectful of private property, protected lands, and the overall history of the area. Take your time, mind your speed, and most of all… enjoy your journey along the road less traveled.
This particular cache is a small container hidden along Rustic Road 50, a sand road in Adams County also known as Cottonville Avenue. Cottonville is a very popular name for roads in this part of the state. This particular stretch runs between 4th and 8th Avenues. Total length is 4.6 miles.
Locals call this road the State Road because it was laid out by the state, probably in the 1800’s. Vistas along this road include native lowland and upland trees, shrubbery and marshes. Wild birds, deer, and grouse abound. Most of the land surrounding this road is private hunting land.
Some friendly tips: You should be able to pull over near GZ safely, depending on the recent weather you might want to be cautious about the edges so you don’t get stuck. Also, as long as you are traveling this road, be sure to check out Cottonville Color GC1Y7TW. It’s an easy to do multi while you drive to GZ for this one.
Please be respectful of private property and take care with retrieving and replacing the cache to save the experience for the next cacher. Happy hunting!
