Geocache Description:

A true piece of Onalaska`'s history special thanks to the management for permission to place this cache.

In 1960, Lucy and Dick Mulder bought the farm and land located at the entrance to Green Coulee that had been the Bill Gear farm. Their intention was to develop a golf course and they worked on the greens and grounds during the spring and summer of 1961. They also converted the original garage and milkhouse into a pro-shop. The stone wall on the northwest corner of the present proshop and bar building is a remnant of these old original farm buildings. Don Willey was the contractor for the work. Dick and Lucy lived in the original farm house as they developed the Coulee Golf Bowl. The nine-hole golf course opened for the first time on Memorial Day of 1962. Lucy and Dick did most of the work to run the business by them- selves, often taking turns to go home and rest for a few hours. In 1964 they constructed a bowling alley in connection with the pro-shop. That year they also tore down the old house and lived in an apartment built over the pro-shop. In 1970 they replaced the old system of separate sprinklers and hoses for each green that were manually operated with an automatic sprinkler system. That same year, the Mulders built a new house high on the hill over- looking the golf course. They have two children, Suzanne and Jon.
