Geocache Description:

ONLY AVAILABLE DURING PARK HOURS OF 9-5

The cache is near the site of the Hopewell village schoolhouse. THE CACHE IS NOT IN THE LARGE STONE PILE or near stones that are a part of the foundation. Do not move or disturb these stones.

This foundation dates from the 1830s and the school was in service until 1872. Archeological work has shown that the door was at the east end of the building and the teacher's podium was at the west end. The stone building had a wood shingle roof. Stand a moment and put yourself in these times as a student.. as a teacher... This cache is in a National Historical Site. There is no hunting, and no biking allowed in this area. Visit during the normal operating hours of 9-5. Park only in one of the designated spots listed below. Please be respectful of your environment. This cache has been approved by the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.
