Geocache Description:

This is not a difficult hide. I wanted to bring you here to see a glimpse of the history of our area.

If you're ever down in Houston
Boy, you better walk right
And you better not squabble
And you better not fight

Bason and Brock will arrest you
Payton and Boone will take you down
You can bet your bottom dollar
That you're Sugar Land bound

Let the Midnight Special
Shine the light on me
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the ever-lovin' light on me

This cemetery is a grim reminder of the Central State Farm. Pat Neff ordered this cemetery built after it was discovered that inmates were being buried where they dropped. This was farming territory and the areas that inmates were given were a direct correlation of the offenses that were committed. Snakes along the river were "bigger round than most man's arms". Murderers and Negros worked along the river. The river was big and took many a life.
What is now home to middle class America was home to some of the most hardened criminal Texas has ever seen. The convict train ran from Houston to San Antonio. Every night the train stopped in Sugar Land at midnight. It was said that if the light of the train shined on ya' , you were next in line to leave the prison. "Leadbelly" a singer/murderer wrote this tune about the farm. CCR made the song famous.
We hope you enjoy this area.

Close the gate behind you, we wouldn't want anyone getting out, would we?
