This is one of seven caches along Little Bear Creek which pay homage to the Little Dipper, an asterism which makes up part of Ursa Minor, or the Little Bear. Strongly recommend downloading a property map from the Mead Wildlife Area web site (link above).
Yildun is the name of the second star from the end of the Little Dipper's handle. Technically not a constellation, the Little Dipper is a star group (asterism) that makes up the back and tail of the constellation Ursa Minor, also known as "The Little Bear".
This cache is located along Little Bear Creek. Depending on the time of year canoe, kayak, or snow shoes may be the best way to reach this cache. If you choose to walk be prepared for wet conditions. I can't promise that your feet will stay dry. The cache contains only a log and pencil.
Please obey all rules and policies of Mead Wildlife Area, particularly in respect to wildlife refuge areas. Refuges are closed from September 1 through December 10. None of these caches are located within wildlife refuges, nor do they require travel through a refuge. Motorized boats are not allowed, except on Little Eau Pleine River. Dogs must be kept on leash between April 15 and July 31. Please practice Cache-In, Trash-Out. This area is open to hunting, so please take proper precautions during hunting seasons and be respectful of other users.
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to the Mead Wildlife Conservation Land Manager of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information are available at www.wi-geocaching.com/hiding
Update: 3/5/2011 - Replaced original cache with a camouflaged match container.
|Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
