This cache has been archived.

kevham: Way Down West has been such a huge part of my caching days that it is sad to put it to rest but at least I'll get to walk it one more time to pick the caches in.

Geocache Description:

The series starts in West Down,North Devon.

Welcome to North Devon.

A series of 110 caches, over 20 miles, set on public footpaths and quiet country lanes.

Way Down West will take around 10 to 12 hours to complete, either ring will take about 6 to 7 hours.(It takes me 7 hours to change the logbooks on the northern ring(7/2/13) and 9 hours for the southern ring(30/1/13),but then I am a wrinkly)

All directions given,on individual cache listings, assume that you are following the caches in numerical order.

For parking in West Down see Way Down West 1,in Blakewell see Way Down West 56(GC24Y69) and in Marwood see
Way Down West 70(GC24Y6C)

The caches have been placed to be easy finds, hopefully,as I feel you wouldn't want to have too many extended delays on such a long trek.

It will be muddy in places. There are three steep inclines after caches 34,44 and 61.

You will be lucky not to meet sheep, cows and horses.

All smallish caches contain coins to swop.(7/2/13-Not any more,of the 300 coins placed in the series there is not a one left!)

Eight waymarks are included to assist you.

For some of the smaller caches you will need a pen/pencil.On the smaller logs, please only put Date -Name/Initials.No stickers or stamps as it's a long way round to change the logs which keeps us away from our hobby.

Most stiles do not have an opening for dogs.At Way Down West 49 and 50,two stiles are 6 feet high.

As for taking a break there is a bench at Way Down West 7,a picnic table at Way Down West 46,a bench near Way Down West 69 and near the church at Way Down West 70.All stiles seat two.

If you are planning on staying in this part of North Devon, for good value there is The Mullacott Camping Barn(01271 866877) or to wake up between Way Down West 10 and 11 there is Little Comfort Farm(01271 812414) where you can fall out of bed,do the whole circuit and be back in time for your evening meal.
Now,right in the heart of West Down there is Pipcott Fields (01271 862595)This Camping and Caravanning site is just behind the village stores where you can book your stay.

Way Down West will be archived on tuesday the 28th October 2014.These big series are getting to be too much for my tired old legs.

Cache is a 35mm film case.

TRACKABLES
I know it will take cachers a long time to log their finds but may I ask that if you place/take a trackable could you please log that find as soon as possible. Thanks, kevham1.
