Fenner Lake (also called Fenners) lies on the Adams-Marquette county line and is one of many small lakes in this area. The parking area is at the eastern end in Marquette County, and a few houses can be spotted along the lake's shores, mostly to the north and west. Water lilies form mats in season, and the fishing is always good.
That's how we first discovered Fenner Lake--fishing. But you don't have to be a big-time angler to get lucky in these waters. This was always our favorite spot to take little kids fishing because the bluegill are many, and they are hungry! We would fish from shore, and the bobber would go down on almost every cast. Even now, the two of us can take the canoe out with a couple of poles and a container of worms and watch the fish attack our lines in the clear water.
If the kids get tired of fishing or it's not your thing, hot summer days are a good time to cool off from the boat landing, but those hungry bluegill might nip at your legs! You can picnic here, too, but bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on. And if it's winter, there is often some ice fishing happening, but not on the western end where there is an aerator to keep an ice-free zone. The parking lot is usually plowed.
Enjoy!
