Geocache Description:


Langkawi, a cluster of 99 islands covering an area of 10,000 hectares, has been declared a geopark by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on June 1st, 2007.

With the recognition, Langkawi joined the Global Geoparks network of 52 geoparks worldwide.

The cache:
Follow the street and enter into the area of the Mutiara Burau Bay Resort. It's really not a problem. You'll do it without money. Enjoy a day at this amazing nature and on the beautiful beach. You'll find at the coordinates a plate with some information.

Tanjung Burau is made up of Late Triassic Bukit Sawar Granite. The granite comprised of medium to coarse minerals with porphyritic texture, cut by several younger dolorite dykes. Weathering and erosion upon this granitic rocks create a stunning sandy and rocky beach landscape with granite residual island and tors, erosion terraces, lagoon, sand spits and tombolos. Remains of ancient teracces of deposition are found at 1 m, 2 m, 3 m, 4 m and more than 5 m above the present sea level. Among peculior feature of Tanjung Burau is futures resembling solution mark developed on granites at inter-tidal zone, probably controlled by the fracture pattern, mineral setting and the position of the exposure in relation to active wave and current.
