Do you get excited when you find a cache that hasn't been found in quite some time? It might be a long hike, it might be a tough puzzle, or it might be a cache that people have just plain forgotten about. This challenge cache encourages you to find those forgotten caches.
Here are the requirements of this Forgotten Cache Challenge:
- Find 12 forgotten caches as follows:
- 1) Find a cache that hasn't been found since the previous month.
- 2) Find a cache that hasn't been found since two months prior.
- and so on, until...
- 12) You have found a cache that hasn't been been found since 12 months prior.
- You can find these 12 caches in any order.
- Finds prior to the publication of this Forgotten Cache Challenge do count.
- Don't worry about the date of the month when deciding if your finds qualify. For example:
- On June 30th, you find a cache that was last found on March 1st of the same year. That counts for your 3 month cache, since March to June is 3 months.
- On September 1st, you find a cache that was last found the previous day, August 31st. That counts for your 1 month cache, since August to September is 1 month.
- If you are First To Find on a cache, you may count the months since the date the cache was hidden.
- If you find a cache with a group, you may count the months since the find just before your group find.
- Non-physical caches, such as EarthCaches, Virtual Caches, and Webcam Caches do qualify for this Forgotten Cache Challenge.
- In your "found it" log, describe how you qualify for this challenge in any way that will convince me you have met the requirements. (I will verify that you have properly qualified for this challenge and will send you a note if I don't think you have qualified.)
- In your log, feel free to note any of the following special accomplishments, and I'll note them on this cache page:
- The person with the longest consecutive streak of forgotten caches (remember, 1 through 12 is required).
- The person where the greatest number of months had passed between the previous find and when they found the cache.
- Sign the logsheet of the physical cache at the posted coordinates of this Forgotten Cache Challenge.
Here's how I would qualify for this Forgotten Cache Challenge:
Current record holders:
qbee37 has a consecutive streak of 100 months!
The current champion for the longest time to visit a forgotten cache is Turtle.X with a 155-month cache, squints patch cache!
And, the longest time between cache publication and FTF: 74 months for Ragfoot when finding Patricia peak.
paleolith has created a GSAK macro that will help determine if you qualify for this challenge. A link to his macro as well as a description of the process can be found here.
Update as of 3/20/22: It seems that the friendly folks at Project-GC have written a challenge checker to make this process a whole lot easier! Go ahead and use this checker to see if you qualify for the challenge. It may not be as fun as digging through your old logs manually, but it's so much quicker.
