The time - 6:30PM on a Thursday late in April, 2010. The place - corner of 9th avenue and 46th street in manhattan's theatre district. The sun is moving towards the horizon but the streets are still filled with those intent on getting home after a busy day at work. Replacing them soon on the streets will be a more leasurely crowd, who plan to relax over a meal before visiting one of the local theatres.
Look closely, however, and you will some in the crowd with a more furtive air. Alone, or in small groups, they make their way through the multitude, occasionally consulting a small plastic box in their hand from which they appear to be taking directions. Who are these mysterious people?
A unique event is planned nearby, a gathering of the city's puzzle-solving geocachers. The plan, an innocent beer or two, and to swap small metal coins. Little do they know that a new challenge awaits! Those among them who can decrypt a simple cipher and unravel the mystery it reveals can take a short walk and log yet another find!
