Geocache Description:

The cache is situated a short walk from Tolosa Park in the mountain bike area. It is placed to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of geocaching and the placement is synchronised with the 10 year event held on 2nd May, 2010.

On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight, eastern savings time, U.S. President Bill Clinton authorised the switching off of Selective Availability, improving the precision of civilian GPS from 330m to close to 20m. Now, said the White House, anyone could "precisely pinpoint their location or the location of items (such as game) left behind for later recovery.” One such enthusiast, Dave Ulmer, a computer consultant, wanted to test the accuracy by hiding a navigational target in the woods. He called the idea the "Great American GPS Stash Hunt" and posted it in an internet GPS users' group. From these humble beginnings, the recreational pursuit known as geocaching was born. This is a simple traditional in the same spirit as that original cache that was placed all those years ago. The most picturesque access is via the Tolosa Fire Trail, Merton Fire Trail and Water Fire Trail, but there are quicker (and less fun, in my opinion!) approaches. Either way, beware the MTB monsters that tend to inhabit this environment, they may be "silent but deadly" muggles ! The cache is placed so that you can (probably) see them coming while searching.....
