Geocache Description:

When it comes to recreational fishing, the vast coastline of the East Kimberley, with its many rivers and estuaries provides valuable habitat that is home to an incredible fishery resource offering some fantastic recreational fishing. Just one of the target species is the fabled Barramundi. Catching a barra is what many visitors to this region of dream of and to unsure sustainability of fish stocks please remember the following:

# Barramundi have a legal size limit between 55-80 centimeters for the Lower Ord river.
# In the Lower Ord area a possession limit of 1 barramundi per angler applies.
# Barramundi may only be caught by means of a rod, reel and line or handling
# All Barrundi start life as male fish and depending upon habitat and food source change to female fish at about 80cm.
# When handling your catch always cradle the fish with wet hands under the belly. Don't hold a fish by the lower jaw and always support the fish's weight.
# When measuring fish lay them on a wet smooth surface.

Please be aware that bag and size limits apply to most target species for off-shore fishing along East Kimberley coastline. For more information visit www.fish.wa.gov.au.

A recreational licence is required for the use of a cast (throw) net in the East Kimberley.

Some of this information were extracted from the Guide to the East Kimberley.

Attention: Recently there is a new law that if you fish from a boat, you must apply for a licence.

The ideal place to fish is at Mambi Island Boat ramp. It is located along Parry Creek Rd, it provides access to the Lower Ord River. It is also a good area to camp and there is toilet facilities nearby. Be aware of salties (crocodiles) in the Lower Ord River.

The cache is located near Parry Creek Rd because it is difficult to hide it around the camp site. It is a plastic jar with logbook, a pencil, a few swaps and a little prize for FTF.
