I’m introducing this series of caches, called Minong: Pleasant Valley, to introduce everyone to the wonderful Minong area of northern Wisconsin.
From the cache site, you can see Lakeside Lake, one of many Minong area lakes. This small lake is found on the edge of Washburn County Forest land, thousands of acres of which surround Minong. A place called Lakeside is also referred to repeatedly in the article, Settlement and Early History of Minong, WIS by Josiah Bond, Jr. It’s difficult to tell whether this refers to a place locally, or to Lakeside in Douglas County, which may have been a source for freight via Lake Superior. Regardless, I make the unsubstantiated leap that Lakeside Lake is somehow connected, as well as Lakeside Road. Other connections to Josiah Bond, Jr. can be found in lakes with names such as Bond Lake and Kimball Lake. Placed with permission from Washburn County Forest.
