The Cowichan River Trail is part of Cowichan River Park is a great hike with picturesque views of the valley below and one of the best fishing rivers on Vancouver Island.
The cache is at the posted coordinates and is not a micro. We were short on things to place in the cache so it is mostly things WingSaber has retrieved from other caches.
The 3rd Douglas Cubs are at it again. In 2009 we completed a 90 km (round trip) bike ride from Victoria to Sooke. This year the pack is going on a hike. While not a long hike the loop from the 66 mile trestle to Skutz Falls and back is a wonderful hike. The views are spectacular and with relatively minor gains and drops in altitude. Bring a camera and a fishing rod and spend the day.
Caches were placed on a pre-cub hike to check out the trail as per Scouts Canada regulations. The trail is fine for kids of most ages but be careful for some sections as there is potential to go over the edge.
We completed the trail in 2.5 hours of moving time and 5 hours total as we stopped often and did some fishing, had some snacks and just enjoyed the day.
All caches in this series are within a metre of the trail or a side trail.
