This cache is called Quickaid Cryptex because of the cache container. The container was found while caching out at Leechtown (Leechtown Legacy - GCYZW8) with the Monday Caching Crew and it is an old brass, hand pump, fire extinguisher. When I found the fire extinguisher it was badly damaged, I brought it home and I had to figure out how take this crushed and crumpled piece of metal and make it pretty again. The first thing I did was to try and remove the cap by breaking the solder seal. Once the cap was loosened I had to also break the small seal at the bottom and then remove the guts of the pump. This was the easy part because of how badly disfigured the reservoir was. I slowly began working the metal to a shape that resemble a cylinder. The final step was to have the brass plate reattach to the front.

The second part of this cache is the Cryptex. The word cryptex is a neologism (a word that is in the process of making its way into common language) coined by the author Dan Brown for his 2003 novel The Da Vinci Code, denoting a portable vault used to hide secret messages. It is a combination of the words cryptology and codex; "an apt title for this device" since it uses "the science of cryptology to protect information written on the contained scroll or codex". This idea to build my own Cryptex came to me from an email I received from J of The_Draglings. The url link to the original Cryptex was a bit confusing to understand so I did some research and I found a suitable alternative which I have altered a little bit. I feel the new design is suitable and I think you will enjoy the final result.

This is my favourite cache that I have and I spent many hours thinking and rethinking the best way to construct it. I hope you enjoy it. Note that if you pull out the cache and you only see the white tube then you are missing a piece of the cache.
