Another educational walk on trails and a beautiful place to
explore.
Not a well known area but definately a place worth visiting. Lots
of room here for more caches and I hope to be able to explore this
area more in the near future. Very interesting place with signs and
educational materials. The Knife Creek Block is part of the Alex
Fraser Research Forest. The Knife Creek Block is near 150 Mile
House and is dominated by Interior Douglas Fir. The terrain is
gentle and the climate is dry. The cache is located along the
interpretive trail and there are 10 information signs along the
way. In the early 1980's the Ministry of Forests began conducting
research in this area. The project involved investigating why Mule
Deer use this forest in the winter and how various timber
harvesting and silviculture practices could be conducted without
negatively impacting the deer. Mule deer are quite active in this
area. Infact a few years back I hit one near here out on the
highway and this area along highway 97 is an high accident area
unfortunately for the deer. There is quite a few deer in the area.
Mule deer have large ears, forked antlers, a white rump patch and a
black tip on thier tails. They are plant eater that migrate up to
120 kilometers to winter range. Enjoy your visit to the area and
good luck in finding Mulies Haven Cache.
