Geocache Description:

You can either Hike up from Hedley through the Donkey Trail or The Powerline is also option. Is about a 1/2 day hike. If you choose to drive - we reccomend Quad only/Can be done in modified very very short wheel based vehicle (you will be doing 3 point turn abouts near cliffs). Do no reccomend driving unless you have lots of experience on similiar roads. Also reccomend carrying Chain Saw for fallen trees.

We have brought you to an abandoned Cabin, and behind it is the remains of a fallen mine shaft (not accessible to go into it.)

From GCR Photos

(Barlee, The Sagebrush Country - South Okanagan No. 2 in a Series, Abt 1960) P 27 – No the story below is not here – but in another area – thought you would enjoy. Lost Gold Bars – Two gold bars worth over $24,000! They could be at the end of this road – and probably still are. To the east and up a natural draw cut by the creek known as wolfcub winds this road to the site of old camp McKinney.

Down this route in 1896, rode a highwayman by the name of “Matt” Roderick; after his holdup of the camp McKinney gold wagon. There is considerable evidence that somewhere along this road Roderick buried the two largest gold bars. The clues indicate that the buried gold is probably close to the original site of Camp McKinney somewhere near the McKinney (Fairview) Road west of the old mining camp. It has been established that Roderick was shot and killed while trying to retrieve the bars. And the secret of their hiding place undoubtedly died with him. This is one of the few authentic treasures in the province of British Columbia which, in all likelihood, still lies in exactly the same spot in which it was buried. The high country around historic McKinney Camp is however, a large area in which to search and the chances are extremely remote that anyone will be fortunate enough to stumble across this long lost and often looked for treasure.

But who knows? The bars are still there and have been for the last three-quarters of century.
