Geocache Description:

Stratton-Eustis Community Building.

The third annual "Get Useless in Eustis" event will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Eustis, Maine. The Eustis Community Building (coords are for there) has been reserved for that day and will serve as a meeting place. It will open at 7:00 AM for breakfast cooked by Team Richards, will be open all day for hot coffee and cocoa and dinner will be at 5:00PM. The building will close whenever we're through. It has two restrooms, a large completly equipped kitchen, a stage, lots of tables and chairs. There will be a registration table, door prizes and a TB/coin swap table. No alcoholic beverages allowed. No dogs, unless they are very small and on a leash.

We have also reserved the two Group Sites across the street from Cathedral Pines Campground which you may use for free. Group Site 1 is reserved for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Group Site 2 is reserved for Friday and Saturday nights. Or you may reserve (and pay for) your own site in the main campground by calling 207-246-3491, www.gopinescamping.com. The group areas have fireplaces, picnic tables and outhouses only but you may use any of the facilities at the campground across the street. That has hot showers, flush toilets, a dumping station, rec room, playground and a swim beach. You can rent canoes and kayaks there. Alcoholic beverages and dogs are welcome at the campground. The weather can be chilly that time of year so plan accordingly, bring heavy sleeping bags. There will be a campfire each night at Group Site 1 and all are welcome to attend, camping or not. Or if you're a loner, I can show you several out-of-the-way primitive, solitary sites. Not into camping? We have four motels and two B&Bs. Reserve early.

On Saturday you can go caching and find all you want from Kingfield to Rangeley, Stratton to Chain of Ponds. If you like to climb mountains, put a team together and do Cranberry Peak in the Bigelows, or Kennebago, Sugarloaf, or for the less adventurous, Bald Mountain in Oquossoc. There is a cache at the top of each of these. Or go kayaking on Flagstaff Lake. There are caches that can be reached only by boat, and some that can be found by foot or boat. Earn your Eustis Bachelor of Caching Degree (GC1EE71). The SW East Kennebago Mt 4x4 Progressive Ride is popular. You can walk part way or hitch a ride with someone in a Jeep. We will be happy to help you with your plans. Several new caches will be placed for the event, for the FTF people. Those will be published Saturday at 8:00 AM. Each will have some good swag to make it even more fun. Some will have unactivated geocoins, all will have a variety of pathtags. And there will be another night cache since that was well received last year. In addition, Hollora has requested that there be enough different types of caches so a person can meet the requirements of GC1VWN8.

Saturday evening there will be a potluck dinner at the Community Building. Please bring something to share. Last year we almost ran out of main course dishes, so please bring meat dishes, casseroles, soups , stews (yes Brad, I will have bowls this year!). And desserts of course! If you can't bring something with you maybe you could pick up a pizza. Go light on appetizers, bread and salads.

Here's a chance to visit or re-visit this lovely area, meet old friends and make new ones, talk shop, compare toys, kayak, hike or just have fun.

Any questions, please e-mail kayaking loon through Geocaching.com. I'll be happy to help you with any plans or arrangements. This is a beautiful area and we hope many of you can come to enjoy it.
