"The Big Bang Theory" Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

sew crafty: This was the first cache I placed so it's hard to let it go, but I've had to move the final location a few times and each time, it was difficult to find an adequate location. So I think its time to archive this one and open the space up for someone else.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the posted coords.

This is a 3 stage multi, but I've thrown in a puzzle to get you started. The posted coordinates will get you to available parking, and all 3 stages are within walking distance of this location. There is some simple math required along the way. At the final location, you're looking for a small camo'd lock n lock. Please make sure to cover it well with whatever Mother Nature has to offer. Spring caching in this area has proven to be rather muddy once the snow melts and the ground thaws, so wear appropriate footwear.

To find stage 1:
You must first solve the following logic puzzle, then use the completed puzzle to solve the following equations:
ABC = Howard's brown x Penny's green x Sheldon's clear
XYZ = Leonard's brown x Howard's green x Penny's Clear

Now divide both ABC and XYZ by 1000 and add ABC to this meaningless North coordinate, 43 28.011; now subtract XYZ from this meaningless West coordinate, 79 39.187.
This will give you the correct coordinates for Stage 1. You can check your stage 1 coordinates using the geochecker below. At stage one, find the 16th letter in the first row and the 3rd letter in the second row to solve for stage 2.

Puzzle intro:
Following several parties at their apartments over the weekend, "The Big Bang Theory" gang made trips to their local glass recycling depot, taking with them various quantities of brown, green and clear glass bottles.
Determine the numbers taken by each of them.

Clues:
1. Penny took more green bottles, (but fewer clear bottles), than the person who took eleven brown bottles.
2. Leonard took two more brown bottles than clear bottles, but fewer green bottles than the person who took eight brown bottles.
3. Sheldon took one more clear bottle than green bottles, but fewer brown bottles than the person who took six green bottles.
4. Howard took one more clear bottle than brown bottles, but fewer green bottles than the person who took seven clear bottles.

To find stage 2:
Use the 2 letters you found at stage 1 to determine which 2 of these coordinates you need to add together for this next stage.

A. N21 14.416 W40 19.447
B. N22 14.395 W39 19.428
C. N21 14.379 W39 19.482
D. N22 14.405 W39 19.501
E. N21 14.469 W40 19.257
F. N21 14.420 W39 19.322
G. N22 14.468 W40 19.183
H. N22 14.315 W40 19.535

To find the final:
At stage 2, look for the maximum kg's. Using that number, divide it by 1000 and add it to these meaningless coords, for the final location:
43 25.486
79 34.953
