Ärjänsaari - The island of Ärjä

Suomeksi Oulujärven muotoutumisen on katsottu alkaneen jo aikojen alkuhämärissä, 2 miljardia vuotta sitten. Järven muotoa ja pohjaa ovat uurtaneet aikojen saatossa kaikkein eniten jääkaudet, joista viimeisin (10 000 vuotta sitten loppunut) näkyy vieläkin merkkeinä Oulujärven rantamilla. Jäämassat vapauttivat Kainuun otteestaan vasta 9400 vuotta sitten, jolloin Vuokatista aina Ruotsiin asti lainehti Ancylus-jääjärvi.

Oulujärvi kuroutui omaksi altaakseen noin 8300–8400 vuotta sitten. Jäämassojen jäljiltä maa alkoi kohota ja Vaalankurkku on nykyään 15 metriä korkeammalla kuin Oulujärven syntyaikoina. Nykyään maa kohoaa n. 8,4 mm vuodessa Vaalan seudulla Oulujärven länsiosassa. Maa kohoaa myös Oulujärven itäosassa, mutta noin millimetrin verran vähemmän. Tämä on aiheuttanut Oulujärven hitaan kallistumisen itään päin. Oulujärven kallistumisen vuoksi myös järven pinta-ala kasvaa sen ollessa tällä hetkellä noin kaksinkertainen alkuperäiseen Oulujärveen verrattuna.

Ärjänsaari oli alun perin harjualue, joka ulottui Koutaniemestä Sivolanniemeen. Vasta noin 1300 vuotta sitten Ärjä irtautui veden nousun myötä mantereesta ja muodostui saareksi. Saaren muoto on muuttunut moneen kertaan aaltojen ja sään sekä kallistuvan Oulujärven muokatessa rantoja. Nykyään Ärjä muistuttaa bumerangia tai räpylää ja sen törmistä töröttää keloja ja petäjiä kertomassa saaren pikkuhiljaa muuttuvasta rantatörmästä. Ärjälle tyypilliset vyöryvät hiekkatörmät ovat muodostuneet aaltojen ja tuulen jyrsiessä rantaa ja muokaten saaresta erikoisen näköistä muistomerkkiä viimeisimmästä jääkaudesta.

Ärjän erikoisuus ja eristyneisyys on houkutellut paikalle myös muinaisia Oulujärven asukkaita: Ärjä oli lappalaisten pyhä riittipaikka josta löytyi vielä 1800-luvun lopussa merkkejä mystisestä porokirkosta. Lisäksi Oulujärven merirosvot pitivät Ärjää tukikohtanaan harjoittaessaan merirosvousta 1800-luvulla Oulujärvellä.

Mene koordinaattien osoittamaan paikkaan legendaarisen lappalaisten porokirkon paikalle Aarretörmälle. Perinnetiedon mukaan porokirkkoa ympäröivät kannot ja kelopuut. Suorita seuraava laskutehtävä ja vastaa alla oleviin kysymyksiin. Lähetä vastaukset profiiliini kautta (500_XL).

In English Deformation of the lake Oulujärvi is considered to begun already 2 billion years ago. The shape of the bedrock and the lake are influenced significantly by ice ages. Now days we are able to see the marks of the latest ice age (terminated 10 000 years ago) at the lake shores. Ice masses melted and liberated Kainuu region approximately 9400 years ago. After that Lake Ancylus mesmerized area from Vuokatti mounds to the ashores of Sweden.

Oulujärvi Lake was shaped as an own basin about 8300-8400 years ago. We are still able to see some marks of the legacy of Ice Ace. Masses of the ice has caused rising of the land and Vaala area (western part of lake Oulujärvi) is currently 15 meters higher than 8000 years ago when the lake was born. Today, the land rises about 8.4 mm per year at the western part of the lake. The land rises also at the eastern part of the lake, but only 7,4 mm/year. This has caused the lake is slowly tilting eastward. The lake area is also increasing because of the tilting and it is currently about double compared to the initialize size of Lake Oulujärvi.

Ärjä was originally part of a ridge area, which stretched from the peninsula of Koutaniemi to the peninsula of Sivolanniemi. Only about 1300 years ago Ärjä seceded from the mainland because of rising water and the island was arised. Shape of the island has been changed many times during decades because of the waves and the weather: area of the lake is diminishing and water is shaping the shores of the island to be high and sharp. Today shape of the Ärjä reminds boomerang or baseball mitt and there is dead trees sticking out from its high sand banks are telling the story of island's slowly changing silhouette. These high sandy banks are very typical for Ärjä Island and its always changing monument dedicated for the latest Ice Age.

Specialty and isolation of Ärjä has also attracted ancient inhabitants of the lake Oulujärvi. Ärjä was a sacred place for ancient Lapps and the late of 1800s there was found marks of mysterious reindeer church which was place for mystical Lappish rites. In addition, the pirates of lake Oulujärvi "Kiveksen rosvot”, held their base at the Ärjä, when they exercise their acts of piracy in 1800s at Oulujärvi.

Go to the place coordinates show, which is located to the legendary holy place of ancient Lapps, so called reindeer church and treasure bank. According to the old documents reindeer church has been surrounded by tree stumps and dead wood. Now you need to do some calculation and answer also to the following questions.
