Geocache Description:

X Marks the Spot.

‘Twas a stormy night in the winter of 1751 when Cornish Wreckers guided Capt Rico and his pirate crew in their badly damaged ship onto treacherous rocks not far from here. Fortunately they were able to save their plundered loot from the broken wreckage the next morning before the Wreckers could get there. To ensure that no one could steal this loot, Capt Rico devised a cunning plan. He hid the treasure and drew a map, which he locked in a small chest and kept the key, and then he hid the chest with the map in it so that the treasure would be safe until they could return to save it. Unfortunately however, fate wasn’t kind to Capt Rico and his Crew and so they never returned and the treasure remains hidden on this beautiful, wild part of the Cornish Coast.

Using these directions and clues see if you can find the treasure:

1.From N 50 14.536 W 5 22.739
The flat rock with the white spot.

2.From the spot, continue down the path for 60 paces (small adult walking paces) (approx 40m) until you come to a junction where a small path leads off to starboard (your right hand side).

3.At this junction go west around the gorse bushes for 15 paces, to the sweet smelling girl, you will find the map that will lead you to the pirate loot at X marks the spot!

HINTS:
Map is a small box (350ml)under the sweet smelling girl, please ensure everything is properly hidden, cache is regular sized box (1ltr) lock and lock, only decode these spoilers if you can’t find either the map or cache or you don’t want to follow the clues.

You can approach this offset cache from one of two National Trust car parks:

A small car park which can fill up quickly on a nice day at N50 14.141 W005 22.073

The car park at Godrevy at N50 14.300 W005 22.073, during the summer season there are toilets here and ice cream vans here. As you walk from here watch for the seals resting in Mutton cove (the public are not allowed on this beach).

You may find a compass useful for this cache, and binoculars for watching seals and the many kestrels that hunt on these cliffs.

Please replace the map when you’ve finished, and beware of muggles fishing, or sunbathing amongst the gorse and heather patches.

PLEASE NOTE: due to the gorse getting a bit sparse we have moved the cache to a slightly different position.

CAUTION:

Do not let children run down towards the final cache because of the steep grassy slope beyond – they may not be able to stop!
Be aware of the cliff edge if you are walking from the Godrevy car park.
Please do not feed the ponies that are sometimes in the area.
This cache is placed with the kind permission of The National Trust.
