The Milwaukee Road, officially the
Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, was a Class
I
railroad that operated in the Midwest and northwest of the
United
States from 1847. One of the spur lines ended here in Berlin.
In
1860 the tacks caused a brief political split in Berlin. The
area
west of the Fox River separated
from the city and became the Town of Forsyth. It rejoined a
year
later. One reason for the split is said to have been the
dissatisfaction with the west siders over the town's rail
service
ending on the east side. The tracks were never built either to
the
city's west side or north of Huron; Berlin remained the terminus
of
a branch line.
