Dieser Earthcache führt Dich zur Basaltrosette am Hellerberg bei Freisen. Die Basaltrosette, ein magmatisches Ergussgestein aus einer Phase des permischen Vulkanismus vor 270 Millionen Jahren, entstand durch eine Blasenbildung aufsteigender magmatischer Schmelze. Die Blase kühlte danach aus und erstarrte zur heutigen Gesteinsformation.
Die Basaltrosette befindet sich in der Nähe eines alten Steinbruchs, in dem viele schöne pastellfarbene Achate sowie Goethit - und Zeolithdrusen gefunden wurden. Von der Rosette aus kann man leicht die obere Stufe des Steinbruchs erreichen, von wo aus man einen schönen Ausblick auf die Umgebung geniessen kann.
Die Basaltrosette war lange Zeit durch lose Gesteinsbrocken grösstenteils verschüttet. Im Frühjahr 2010 wurde sie durch die Gemeinde Freisen freigelegt. Seit 2011 ist die Basaltrosette ein Teil des "Freisener Achatweges".

This Earthcache will guide you to the Basalt-Rosetta on the Hellerberg near Freisen. The Basalt-Rosetta, an igneous volcanic rock from one phase of the Permian volcanism 270 million years ago, was formed by a blistering ascending magmatic melt. The magma bubble then cooled down and solidified into the present rock formation.
The Basalt-Rosetta is located near an old quarry in which many beautiful pastel colored Agates and also Goethite and Zeolith were found. From the Basalt-Rosetta you can easily reach the upper level of the quarry, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings.
The Basalt-Rosetta was buried long time mostly by loose rocks. In spring 2010 it was uncovered by the municipality Freisen. In future it will be made available to the public as part of the "Freisener Achatweg", a new way to the Basalt-Rosetta has already been created.
