Geocache Description:

This is a Night Letterbox Cache. There is a Stamp in the final – Please leave it in the cache container. This Cache is equipped with a Garmin Chirp that is compatible with some models of Garmin GPS’s. With this said, you are not required to use the chirp as there are alternate methods to find the final. As this cache is designed to be done at night you will require a flashlight or headlamp. Please enjoy yourself!

There is and unactivated GeoCoin for FTF

The oddest thing happened to me the other night. I had built a new cache container and I was heading out to place it. I pulled into the parking lot and this is where things began to get interesting. As I turned on my headlamp a huge gray owl landed on the sign marking the trailhead. I was shocked. What a majestic animal I thought to myself. I slowly reached for my camera to try to take a picture. As I did so I thought I heard a voice whisper to me….

“I say sir, I would prefer if you did not do that!”

I froze. Was I hearing things? I proceeded to reach for my camera and the voice was louder.

“I say sir, I would prefer if you did not do that!”

The owl made eye contact with me. His yellow eye blinked and he took off. Was I hearing things? I had to know more. I watched him fly off and I decided to follow. I ran south past the trailhead signed and started to follow the trail south west. Keeping and eye on the owl I ran. He continued to head south west and without warning he landed on what looked like a small lookout facing south over a farmer’s field. As I caught up with him he looked at me and spoke again.

“I sir, am a Grey Owl. I am a night creature. My eyes are very sensitive to light. Your camera will blind me.”

I stood there in silence.

“Why are you here?” asked the Owl.

“I, I am here to hide a geocache.” I responded

“Bah!” Yelled the Owl. “Tupperware in the woods!” He glared at me.

“I know of a much more precious treasure then your useless plastic container.” He said.

“Follow me if you want to know more.”

With that the Owl burst into the air and continued to fly south west. I followed him running as fast as I could. I noticed that the path forked East and West. I looked at my GPS and realized that I had already followed the Owl just over 1KM (As the owl fly’s). The Owl landed in a huge burnt out tree on the North West Corner of the fork. He looked at me and spoke:

“This is as far as I can take you.” He said. “The other night animals will have to guide you from here.” He continued to talk.

“I do not know the final resting spot of the treasure, but there are two things that do.” The owl paused for a second and continued.

“If you travel west from here 217 meters your will meet a small bird. Walk slowly and listen for his chirp. He will tell you where to find what you seek.” He blinked his eyes and continued.

“Although the bird knows exactly where the treasure is, he cannot talk to everybody.” The Owl paused for a moment an continued.

“If you feel you will not be able to hear the bird you must travel east and seek the Fireflies”. He blinked.

“The interesting thing is about the fireflies is that they often take some time to reveal themselves. If you decide to use their guidance they will eventual appear to aid you.” The Owl paused once again and continued.

“Head East down the trail. If you shine your light eventually they will appear. Fireflies are an interesting insect. They will always fly alone unless there is something of interest in the area, and then they will band together in groups three or four.” His yellow eyes flashed and he took off. As he flew away he spoke once again.

“What you seek is hidden on the ground under a fallen tree south of the trail. Remember to look for the group of Fireflies! Good luck!
