Geocache Description:

A cache on the edge of Glacier National Park that celebrates it's reputation as the "Crown" of the continent.

"Far away in Montana, hidden from view by clustering mountain-peaks, lies an unmapped northwestern corner- the Crown of the Continent. The water from the crusted snowdrift which caps the peak of a lofty mountain there trickles into tiny rills, which hurry along north, south, east and west, and growing to rivers, at last pour their currents into three seas. From this mountain-peak the Pacific and the Arctic oceans and the Gulf of Mexico receive each its tribute.

Here is a land of striking scenery."

George Bird Grinnell,
The Century Magazine
1901

Glacier National Park celebrates it's 100th birthday as this cache is published. For those of us who are Glacier "junkies" it is a time of celebration and reflection on the glories of "our" park. Of course, Glacier belongs to all of us and we hope it will for as long as people seek out wild places to celebrate our natural environment.

This cache is in a small container that celebrates one of Glacier's many nicknames - The Crown Of The Continent! There is room for small trade items but the opening is only about the size of a quarter so please do not force items into the container. While preforming maintenance after the summer of 2012, this cache was modified to consist of both the original container AND a small tupperware lock top box. It will now hold most regular sized trackables. Please place the cache back where you found it to protect it's fragile nature. Located just off Highway #2 it is hidden on private land with permission of the owner.

The terrain rating for this site is due not to distance, but to the fact that for part of the year you may need wading boots to access the site. Deep snow should not obscure the hide but will make it harder to reach. Parking for your hunt will be safest on Old Highway #2. Traffic on Highway 2 (new) can be heavy and fast during peak tourist season.

There is a gift for the FTF in the cache along with Geocache instructions and a log. Please bring you own writing implement so the nub pencil lasts for those who forget. As always, practice CITO (cache in - trash out). Thanks and enjoy!

Congrats to radioman2 for the FTF!
