Welcome to the Decatur County Cemetery Series! This series will take you to every corner of Decatur County and in between to discover the cemeteries of today and long since past. Who knows; you might just find some long-lost lineage!
Vallonia Cemetery is located 7 miles east and 4 miles north of Oberlin. The post office here was established on July 2, 1879, with Henry C. Miller as postmaster. On April 27, 1887, the office was discontinued. This small community was never a town, but was the home to a school in which my father attended grade school. Cache is a camouflaged ammo can with "Official Geocache" markings.
This being a cemetery series, the utmost respect when entering and searching is imperative. None of the caches involve ANY desecration of graves or cemetery property, and none should be reported or this series will be disabled. All caches are relatively easy and require little searching or bushwhacking. If a funeral service is being held in the cemetery, DO NOT ENTER. We want you to be respectful not only to the 'residents' of the cemetery, but to the families. Just use your head and you should do just fine. Please, NO NIGHT CACHING. Many of these cemeteries have curfews from dusk to dawn.
