WSQ St. Cecelia's Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

madmomma72: The cache was muggled and I’m too far away to easily maintain it in the future. My associated trackable will be updated to reflect that id like it to continue to travel instead of returning to this cache. I’m so sad about this, but thanks to everyone who visited this place, which remains important to me.

Geocache Description:

WSQ signifies a Wisconsin Spirit Quest cache, a cache placed near a cemetery. Please note that the cache is not placed on or near any grave markers.

This is a themed cache placed in loving honor of my grandmother, who died at far too young an age of breast cancer. She is buried at St. Cecelia's, along with a number of my family members. I grew up in Butternut, and have spent a good deal of time at this cemetery. If there is a service or people there honoring their loved ones, please keep your distance or come back at another time. This is a place of respect, so please show it to others.

Edited April of 2017 to add: my mom died last summer of another deadly cancer, metastatic melanoma, and is now buried near my grandparents. Geocaching has been an on-again, off-again endeavor for me since I discovered it, but it's in places like this one, this cemetery, that I'm able to find the quiet that may not heal, but does soothe, the hurt. Whether I'm geocaching as much as I can or so little that I feel like I've nearly forgotten how, I'll always be grateful for this activity that allows me to find wonderful places that allow me moments of peace.

The swag in this cache is all breast-cancer/pink-ribbon related, and there's a lot of it. Please enjoy and reflect while you're here.

When I was younger, the markers on the east side of the cemetery were particularly fascinating to me as they are some of the oldest, dating to the early-19th century. There are some in the middle part of the cemetery, too, from the mid-1800's. I still love to walk up and down the rows in cemeteries and look at the names and epitaphs.

Cache should be accessible in winter, as I think the drives are kept plowed, but I will check on that after snowfall and manage cache accordingly.
