Welcome to my favorite trail in the Fakahatchee...the K2!
This gorgeous hike is about one mile round trip. The trail begins with boards and blocks strategically placed to keep you up out of the mud and water. But as you walk along, the boards and blocks become fewer. Pretty soon they will disappear completely and you will find yourself on a beautiful trail surrounded by ferns. You are never far from the water and as you hike deeper into the forest you will encounter more water on the trail. And eventually you will find yourself wading among the cypress searching for the ammo can. But my hope is that you find the trail so magical that finding the cache is secondary to the beauty around you. But just a reminder...help protect this amazing environment. Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
For the next few months there will be only one way to access Janes Scenic Highway. The northern access will be closed for quite some time due to the ongoing Picayune Restoration Project. You will need to use the southern route listed on the cache page. Janes Scenic Highway is an eleven mile long dirt road that will require you to drive carefully and VERY slowly due to the noted routes' famous potholes. Depending on your vehicle, it may take you upwards of an hour or more to drive the entire length. But of course that makes for wonderful sightseeing and wildlife spotting!
