Puzzles are the one cache category that seems to be avoided by
the majority of geocachers. In fact, if the question mark appears
in front of a cache title, most geocachers don’t even bother
to read any further. Geocachers who publish puzzles know that they
will see very little activity at their cache and only the usual
“suspects” will find them. This is really too bad since
many puzzles are not that difficult to figure out and many require
simple internet searches to answer a few questions. In fact, many
of the puzzles out there are very instructive and educational.
THIS IS HOW YOU HIDE TEXT IN THE SOURCE
CODE
Having solved many puzzles myself and placed a few of my own,
I’ve been asked numerous times to put together an event on
“How to do puzzles.” So, that’s what I’m
doing. The purpose of this event is two-fold. First of all to bring
geocachers, new and experienced, together to socialize and share
caching experiences (that’s why we have events in the first
place). Finally, to spend some time learning a few of the
techniques involved in solving puzzles. It is not my plan to pick
local puzzles and give away the solutions but rather talk about how
puzzles are constructed and the different ways of finding
solutions. It is my hope that many of the “puzzle creators
and solvers” in the area will attend and add to the
discussion because I’m certainly not the expert here.
I will have a room set up so information can be projected. There
will also be wireless for those that wish to bring their laptops.
It would be helpful for those that bring a laptop to also bring an
extension cord.
The event will run from 2-5pm or whenever folks decide to leave.
The Puzzle 101 portion of the event will be from 2:30-3:45 or
so.
