Hayes

When Hayes entered the White House, extravagant galas and wild parties were replaced with morning prayer services and nightly hymn sings. He earned the nickname "Old Granny" for his teetotaling lifestyle. Hayes forbade profanity, tobacco, and most of all, liquor. However, there is a legend that a White House steward once soaked oranges in rum for a state dinner to circumvent the ban.
