It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.
Well it wasn't quite that bad, but let's just say it was pretty bad.
On the First of January at approximately 2:35 a horrible injustice was done in the world. The exact crime and how it was committed is not important right now, what it is important is what happened to a key piece of evidence; Exhibit E.
These were the fingerprints of the perpetrator that had been collected from the crime scene in preparation for the trial (big trial, surprised you haven't heard of it).
Someone has stolen the fingerprints and hidden them for reasons unknown.
All that is known as to their whereabouts is a note that was found nearby at the base of two trees:

This is my first attempt to confuse people much like I've been confused by some of the local puzzle makers (FMZ, M@ and YuGeo4 come to mind - I thank you for it!)
There were once some fingerprints and a pencil to be found but they have gone. Otherwise the usual goodies can be found; logsheet, a little bit of room, and one more smiley to add to your collection.
