Geocache Description:

Nice view of the picnic and playground from here. Very cammo'd tube.

The coords were taken on an overcast day and there is plenty of tree cover. We all know that 10 - 30' off sometimes can be expected with poor reception so if you find the coods are Way Way off, like 50' or more, please send me a note and I'll try to go back on a nice clear day and average some better coords. ALSO, Ive come to know that park personnel dont particularly like seeing off - trail paths, you know, our GeoTrails. If you notice that we are wearing a cachepath pretty hard, please think about taking a little different route and maybe even try to erase the trail a little... and CITO.

Jones Park is a featured stop in the Houston Wilderness Passport program. While hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Houston, Jones Park is still close enough to visit on the spur of the moment. With over 300 acres of forested grounds, Jones Park is a great place to explore with kids. Some of the Kids in Action programs include: Fishing Programs, Summer Nature Camp and Tadpoles Club.

The playground you see just beyond the cache was voted as one of the Houston area’s best, and children of all ages can explore the extensive trail system.

The printable Critter Checklist can turn an ordinary hike into an exciting scavenger hunt. Many trails take you to the beaches of Spring Creek where white sand banks are an open invitation for fishing.

The turtles at the pond off the Canoe Launch Trail are eager to feed on floating turtle food, which is available at the nature center.

Bring a picnic since there are no concessions at Jones Park, and be sure to wear proper footwear (closed-toed shoes are recommended at all times).

Parents are responsible for supervising their children under the age of 12 at all times.

In addition to being a popular field trip destination for all types of groups, Jones Park offers many weekend and school holiday programs.
Most nature-related programs begin or take place at the nature center, while history-related programs are usually held in Redbud Hill Homestead.

Children between the ages of 10 and 15 can become a Jesse Jones Park Paddler by successfully completing the periodically held Junior Canoe Training workshop.

Earning a paddler card allows kids (accompanied by an adult) to participate in the park’s regularly scheduled canoe trips
