Speeltuin Santpoort aan de Valckenhoeflaan 1 in Santpoort-Noord, is een leuke plek om een paar uurtjes met de allerjongsten heen te gaan. Er is een klein gebouwtje waarin het bij minder goed weer en in de winter prima toeven is en de kinderen kunnen knutselen en spelletjes spelen. Het is absoluut niet duur en ouders kunnen er ook nog een kopje koffie, thee of limonade nuttigen.
Geschiedenis
De speeltuin is opgericht in 1946 door toedoen van pastoor Goossens van de R.K. parochie Onze Lieve Vrouw van Altijddurende Bijstand. Hij vond dat er een katholieke speeltuin moest komen, om te voorkomen dat mensen lid werden van de neutrale speeltuinvereniging (die hadden al sinds 1934 een speeltuin aan de Wüstelaan tegenover de Bethelkerk). In de neutrale vereniging zaten ook "communisten" en dat was niet goed voor de kinderen, dus de pastoor vond dat er er een nieuwe, Rooms-Katholieke, speeltuin moest komen...
In eerste instantie bevond deze speeltuin zich op het "Terrasbosch" achter de kerk (waar nu de Stichting O.C.K. Het Spalier staat, aan de Middenduinerweg 44), maar in 1958 werd ie verplaatst naar de huidige locatie aan de Valckenhoeflaan. Van enige bemoeienis van de kerk was geen sprake meer en later heeft men het "R.K." uit de naam weggelaten. De speeltuin was neutraal! De speeltuinvereniging heeft nooit een financiële bijdrage van de Kerk ontvangen. Er was in de vroege jaren veel gesteggel over de speeltuinen en de financieringen ervan. Een brand verwoestte het clubhuis in 1956 en de legendarische opa Coen Handgraaf met een houten been moest na een jaar stoppen met oppassen, vanwege pesterijen om zijn "houten poot". De andere speeltuin, aan de Wüstelaan, ging overigens in 1970 dicht, "wegens buurtoverlast".

Openingstijden van de speeltuin:
Winterperiode: vanaf de herfstvakantie iedere woensdag en vrijdagmiddag van 14.00 - 16.00 uur tot Paaszaterdag (begin zomerperiode).
Paaszaterdag: van 14.00 - 17.00 uur.
Zomerperiode:
maandag, dinsdag en donderdag van 15.30 -17.30 uur.
woensdag, zaterdag en zondag van 14.00 - 17.00 uur.
vrijdag van 14.00 - 17.30 uur.
In de voorjaars-, zomer- en herfstvakantie is de speeltuin IEDERE dag geopend van 14.00 - 17.00 uur.
Op feestdagen en tijdens de Santpoortse Feestweek is de speeltuin gesloten.
De cache
Let op: de cache ligt dus NIET in de speeltuin, maar er vlakbij, in het parkje erachter! Parkeren kun je voor de speeltuin (gratis). Het is ook vlakbij treinstation Santpoort-Noord. Je moet wel even van het pad af, ongeveer 6-7meter... Enne... Pas op! Dit park is ook een hondenlosloopgebied, trap dus niet in de poep! Je zou de eerste niet zijn... ;-)
NIEUWE cache-locatie: N 52° 26.115' E 004° 38.077'. De vele bomen kunnen het GPS-signaal enigszins verstoren, maar met de hint moet het geen probleem zijn...

"Speeltuin Santpoort" (Playground Santpoort) at the Valckenhoeflaan 1 in Santpoort-Noord, is a nice place to take your youngest kid(s) for a couple of hours. There is a small building in which, if the weather is bad or in winter time, the children can play games or do some tinkering. It's totally inexpensive and parents can even buy a cup of coffee, tea or soda there.
History
The playground was founded in 1946 by Pastor Goossens of the Roman Catholic parish "Onze Lieve Vrouw van Altijddurende Bijstand" ("Our Lady of Perpetual Help"). He wanted to start a Catholic playground, to prevent people joining the neutral playground association (which had a playground already since 1934 at the Wüstelaan, opposite the Bethelkerk). In the neutral association were also "communists" and that was not good for the children, so the pastor deemed a new, Roman Catholic, playground necessary...
At first, the playground was located on the "Terrasbosch" behind the Church (where now the Foundation "O.C.K. The Spalier" has its building at the Middenduinerweg 44). In 1958 the playground was forced to move to its current location on the Valckenhoeflaan. The Church had no more influence on the playground and later the part "R.K." (=Roman Catholic) was omitted from the name. The playground was neutral! The playground association has never received a financial contribution from the Church. In the early years there was a lot of wrangling about the playgrounds and the financing thereof. A fire destroyed the clubhouse in 1956 and the legendary grandfather Coen Handgraaf, with a wooden leg, had to stop after a year of attending the playground, because of harassment for his "wooden paw". The other playground by the way, at the Wüstelaan, was closed down in 1970, because of a "neighbourhood nuisance".

Opening times of the playground:
Winter period: from the start of the "Autumn vacation" (herfstvakantie), every Wednesday and Friday afternoon from 14.00 - 16.00 hours, until Holy Saturday (start of the summer period).
Holy Saturday (day before Easter): from 14.00 - 17.00 hours.
Summer period:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 15.30 - 17.30 hours.
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 14.00 - 17.00 hours.
Friday from 14.00 - 17.30 hours.
In the Spring, Summer and Autumn vacation the playground is open EVERY day from 14.00 - 17.00 hours.
On public holidays and during the "Santpoortse Feestweek" the playground will be closed.
The cache
Mind: the cache is not on the playground, but close by, in the park behind it! You can park your car in front of the playground (no charge). Also, it's very close to the railway station Santpoort-Noord. You do have to get off the (foot) path, about 6-7 meters... And... Be careful! In this park, dogs may walk unleashed, so do not step in the poo! You wouldn't be the first... ;-)
NEW cache location: N 52° 26.115' E 004° 38.077'. There are many trees that could disturb the GPS signal a bit, but with the hint it shouldn't be a problem...
