B I G    R I G

       EVER WONDER about those BIG RIGS you see traveling down the interstate? Well, I did. So I stopped by this place to ask a few questions and get some answers (and an OK for a cache here).
Mr B. Ponder, owner of the business related some facts about the BIG RIGS to me.
     COST? The Tractor part of a Tractor Trailer setup costs on average $110,000 to 120,000!
If you want a SLEEPER CAB   (see photo) → it can add another $15-20,000 or higher!
      SLEEPERS can boast a TABLE, CHAIRS, DINETTE, REFRIGERATOR, MICROWAVE, BED, UPPER BUNK BED, AND MORE!→ →
      BIG RIGS tend to have 9 to 15 Liter ENGINES, and usually boast 300 to 500 hp (horse power). Most have around TEN Forward Gears!
     How many Miles Per Gallon does a BIG RIG get? These rigs typically average between 4 to 8 miles per gallon, with most getting 6 to 7 mpg!
     How about FUEL CAPACITY? BIG RIGS can carry between 100 to 400 Gallons. Most BIG RIGS you see going down the road have Two - 100 Gallon Tanks, one on each side.


     How far do they drive? Many BIG RIG DRIVERS LOG 200,000 MILES PER YEAR, although some may only drive 115,000 miles in a year. Some Husband/Wife Teams travel all over the country, and may only shut their truck off to Change the Oil. It is no wonder that there are many drivers out there who have driven OVER 1 MILLION MILES.

     So, the next time you pass a BIG RIG on the highway on your short trip to...wherever, think about the long haul that these drivers do every day.
