Geocache Description:

The Hillcrest Cemetery of Holly Springs, Mississippi established sometime in the 1830’s is as beautiful as it is historically rich and is known as “Little Arlington” because of the numerous and distinguished veterans that are buried there. There are two beautiful memorials honoring the veterans of the Confederate States of America. There is also a memorial honoring the Catholic clergy who gave their lives in the service of caring for the sick of Holly Springs during the Yellow Fever outbreak in the 1870’s. Some of the notable buried here are; -ten Confederate Generals -a veteran of the Alamo (KIA of course) -a veteran of the Mexican War (KIA) -a veteran that was one of the first eleven servicemen taken as prisoners of war in France during WWI -the Colonel that commanded the defense of Vicksburg during the Civil War -numerous Civil War veterans -the first black man to serve as Senator for the State of Mississippi -six Catholic nuns and one Catholic priest that died treating the sick during the Yellow Fever epidemic in the 1870’s There are so many old and beautiful grave markers in this cemetery that you really should allow extra time to visit the whole site and while your at it visit the Marshall County Historical Museum to learn more about Holly Springs rich history. To learn more here check out the excellent website listed above in the "related webpage" option that really showcases this special place. Closed from 5p.m. to 7a.m. daily. I want to give the FTF a micro geocoin but couldn't fit it in the cache. If the FTF wants it I can mail it to them. Take a camera for cover and act like a tourist while you sign the log. Watch out for muggles! Please return cache as found and bring your own pen and HAVE FUN!
