The National Trust owns and looks after the Golden Cap Estate. There are over 30 miles of footpaths. Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast at 626ft (191m), attracts more than 250,000 visitors each year.
The suggested starting point is the National Trust car park (N 50’ 44.019 W002’ 50.057) in Langdon Wood. Parking if free for NT members, displaying their members badge, otherwise a small fee is payable at the Pay & Display machine.
This Cache is the 1st of 7 and combines with the caches below to make a circular route around this part of the estate. The complete route is a walk of a little over 2.5 miles (4.5km), which takes you down to St Gabriels before a steady climb brings you round the back of Golden Cap to return via the wood.
Note: The difficulty for each of the caches is on an individual basis. The Terrain takes into account the whole estate and all caches involved. In Winter sections of the route can be muddy, especially in gateways. You will need a pen for the micro-caches.
To find this cache leave the car park via the gate behind the Pay & Display machine and follow the track round the northern end of the wood. You need to drop down to the bottom footpath when you can. You are looking for a small clip top box which contains log book, pencil and tradable goodies.
