Geocache Description:

This is fun cache with easy access for those travelling through Colorado. Head Case is located minutes off of I-70 and is a quick grab (figure 15-20 minutes) for those leaving Denver International Airport. There is convenient parking on 56th Avenue where you can pull completely off the road.

This is one of only a handful of large caches that exist in the Denver metropolitan area. Enjoy!!

Congratulations to Easton2315 for another FTF on an Ecylram cache!

BEWARE: Mutation Risk. Proceed With Caution!

Summary - You must travel to a mutant geocache, known locally as "Head Case", and verify that it remains secure in its locked container. Once you've verified that it is indeed secure you will need to sign the appropriate log and resecure "Head Case". (Further Instructions Below.)

Dossier -
In 1942, in a time of war, the U.S. purchased the adjacent land to create and store chemical weapons. Called the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, this area was used by the Army to manufacture and store white phosphorus, napalm, mustard gas, sarin and other chemicals.

After the war, the Army leased the area out for pesticide manufacturing. Starting in 1961, waste chemicals were injected deep into the ground but the practice stopped in 1966 when a mysterious series of earthquakes started to occur. When the well injections stopped, so did the earthquakes.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal was closed in 1992 and the process was begun to convert the area into a National Wildlife Refuge.

The cache site sits outside the fence of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. When the cache was placed, it was just a simple micro in a scenic location.

However, within hours of being placed, a black ooze appeared at the base of the cache causing it to mutate 40 times over and turn a dark, obsidian-like black. The cache continued to grow and mutate until it was determined that "Head Case" could not grow in dark places. (More here.)

Your Mission - Today "Head Case" sits in its own locked case where it is periodically checked to ensure no new mutations have occurred. Your job is to proceed to the posted coordinates, unlock the case, check for new mutations, and sign the correct log. This should not take more than 15 minutes.

Important! - Because Head Case has mutated, what was once one log has now become many, it is critical that you sign the correct log.

You will know which log is the correct one by the date printed at the top. To complete the mission you MUST sign the log that matches the date you personally inspected "Head Case". For example, if today is the 13th of the month you must sign the log that has the number 13 printed at the top. Failing to do so voids this mission! The combination to the lock is 2685. Be sure to relock "Head Case" when you are done.

After Completion - Please log your experience online so that we can keep track of the "Head Case" mutations. Your entry will allow us to monitor the growth and changes of what was once a simple micro.

WARNING: When you are in the presence of "Head Case", you will feel a general tingling in your extremities. You will also feel an unnatural urge to place this mutant on your head. Don't give in to the urge!

Local legend has it that wearing "Head Case" will give the wearer a heightened mental ability to find caches. Some have even claimed that wearing it will make you look younger. This has NOT been confirmed!

The side effects are unknown and because these effects may include writing longer log entries and the awarding of Favorite points, we strongly recommend AGAINST putting "Head Case" on your head. It won't be easy to resist the urge, but we have faith you will successfully resist the temptation.

Good luck and God speed!
