Croweburg consisted of four individual camps
(No. 14 Croweburg Camp, No. 15 Croweburg Camp, No. 16
Croweburg
camp, and New Camp), which were located within one-half mile
of
each other. Their physical growth resulted in one coalesced
community, Croweburg. It is named after the Crowe Coal Company
and
was a company camp which means that the houses and community
building were probably provided by the coal company. There is
a
very good article on coal mining camps in SE Kansas
here with pictures
of how Croweburg once looked.
At the time this cache was placed, I’d read about
geocaching
alphabet challenges to be done within a county. In this
challenge,
a person would need to find caches with names beginning with
each
letter of the alphabet. In Crawford County we were missing Q,
V,
and Y. The name of this cache will mark off one of those in
case
you’re interested in completing the challenge.
Congratulations to fuerte24 for being FTF!
