Avgo "Egg" Top Castle
To the North/Northwest of the city of Xanthi you can see a huge rocky hill of more than 660 meters height, which because of its shape is called "Egg" (Avgo) by the locals. After about 1 hour or less hiking you can get on to the top and you can have a wonderful view of the city itself, the suburbs up to Vistonida lake, the sea, the Island of Thasos and if you are lucky enough to find good weather conditions you might be able to see even Athos Mountain. Close to the top to the West you can find the ruins of a Byzantine Castle with not too much known details about its history. Close to the wall edge you can find the Avgo "Egg" Top Castle Cache.
BE AWARE. AS THE CACHE IS IN A ROCKY AREA THERE IS ALWAYS A POSIBILITY TO MEET A SNAKE AROUND. PLEASE BE CAREFULL ESPECIALLY WHEN SEARCHING FOR THE CACHE.
