Geocache Description:

We have placed a series of caches around some of the Jasper County Cemeteries. You do not need to go into the cemetery.
Please respect your surroundings.

"Restland Cemetery is located at the south edge of the town of Baxter, in section 22 and 23 Independence Township, Jasper County, Iowa.

" 'In the month of December 1906, Dr. A. H. Buchanan presented the town of Baxter a plo of ground for a cemetery. There have been additions to the east, south and west, a utility house erected, drives laid out, and trees and shrubbery planted. Perpetual upkeep assures owners everlasting care of their lots. The first three interments were Ed McKibben, Louie Butler and Robert Dawson "Squire".'

"The above mentioned publication is in error concerning the first burial in Restland Cemetery. It was not Squire Dawson as stated, but Irwin H. Dawson buried on 10 December 1906. The remains were moved from Independence Cemetery. The practice of moving graves to Restland was common. After the establishment of the cemetery several families purchased lots and Restland and had their loved ones moved to the family plots.

"At the South end of the main drive an unknown soldiers stone has been erected 'in memory of all wars.' Twelve flag poles fly the American flag at the front edge of the cemetery and line the road leading to the monument. This is an inspiring sight on Memorial Day morning when the American Legion members march up the road for the services held at this spot each year.
