L’Usine d’Athus
En 1872, une Usine sidérurgique allait voir le jour à Athus. Pendant 105 ans, elle apporta travail, prospérité et sécurité à toute une population. Athus se développa et grandit grâce à l’Usine. Sa population passa de quelques centaines d’habitants à plus de 7 500. L’Usine produisit principalement du rond à béton, des traverses de chemin de fer, et du fil. Le 05 septembre 1977, l’Usine ferme définitivement ses portes, laissant plus de 1.500 travailleurs sans emploi du jour au lendemain. Ce fut la première grande catastrophe sociale de notre pays.
