Geocache Description:

Norway Bluff Fire Tower. A steep but quick (30 minute) climb to the top.

This site is very remote and in winter may not be accessable by vehicle due to roads not being plowed. Norway Bluff can be summited from the north or south, the easiest route being from the north. A bulldozed trail to the top is available. On the Pinkham Rd. at Mile 31 turn onto the Pelletier Rd. At Mile 8.8 turn left onto a branch rd. Follow this branch rd. for 4.2 miles, bearing left at the first road junction and then following the main travelled road. A gravel pile on the left at the 4.2 mile mark has the trail leaving out of the west end of the pit. Good luck. After climbing steeply for 20 minutes or so you will come to a clearing with a radio repeater shack, the tower being obvious in the distance. A flagged path along the ridge for 1/4 mile will bring you to the tower. The cache is in a 5 gallon laundry bucket. Views from here are beautiful. Please do not disturb equipment as this is rescue and fire control communication equipment which in an emergency you might want to have operational.

Note: Do not attempt this cache if you are not familiar with a map,compass and your GPS unit. This area is the definition of remote and errors here can have serious consequences. Let others know where you are going. An entry fee into North Maine Woods in the summertime is required ($6.00/day) Take the opportunity to camp in the area if you wish to explore. Have fun.
