Cmentarz Zasluzonych na Peksowym Brzyzku w Zakopanem powstal w polowie XIX wieku i byl pierwszym zakopianskim cmentarzem. Od lat dwudziestych XX wieku chowano tu glównie ludzi wybitnych i zasluzonych dla Zakopanego, Tatr i Podhala. Nazwa cmentarza pochodzi od nazwiska darczyncy ziemi, na której jest zlokalizowany, Jana Peksy. W gwarze góralskiej „brzyz” („brzyzek”) oznacza urwisko nad potokiem. Na Peksowym Brzyzku znajduje sie okolo 500 grobów, w tym 250 osób zasluzonych. Cmentarz otacza kamienny mur. Prawie wszystkie nagrobki sa niepowtarzalnymi dzielami sztuki. Wiele z nich powstalo w pracowni artysty rzezbiarza Wladyslawa Hasiora. Na Peksowym Brzyzku spoczywaja miedzy innymi takie osoby jak Witkacy - pisarz i malarz, Stanislaw Marusarz i Helena Marusarzówna - mistrzowie sportów narciarskich, Kornel Makuszynski - poeta, Wladyslaw Orkan - pisarz, Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer - poeta, Tytus Chalubinski - lekarz, milosnik przyrody, popularyzator Zakopanego. Przed cmentarzem po lewej stronie od wejscia znajduje sie zabytkowy kosciólek pod wezwaniem Matki Boskiej Czestochowskiej, najstarszy drewniany kosciól w Zakopanem, powstaly w latach 1847–1852. Wystrój wnetrza tworza obrazy ludowe oraz drewniane figurki pochodzace z polowy XIX wieku.

Merit Cemetery at Peksowy Brzyzek in Zakopane was founded in the mid-nineteenth century and was the first cemetery in Zakopane. From the twenties of the twentieth century mainly outstanding and meritorious people for Zakopane, Tatra Mountains and Podhale were buried there. The name of the cemetery came from the name of donor of land where cemetery was set up - Jan Peksa. In the highland dialect "brzyz" ("brzyzek") means a cliff above the creek. At Peksowy Brzyzek there are about 500 graves, including 250 graves of honored people. The cemetery is surrounded by a stone wall. Almost all the tombs are unique works of art. Many of them were created in the studio of sculptor Wladyslaw Hasior. Many famous Poles were burried at Peksowe Brzyzko e.g. Witkacy - writer and painter, Stanislaw Marusarz and Helena Marusarzówna - masters of skiing, Kornel Makuszynski - poet, Wladyslaw Orkan - writer, Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer - poet, Tytus Chalubinski - a doctor, a lover of nature, popularizer of Zakopane. In front of cemetery the historic church is situated. This is the oldest church in Zakopane, it was built in the years 1847-1852. The interior of the church decorates folk paintings and wooden statues from the mid-nineteenth century.
