It's less than a mile from the parking lot to this cache along the Trans Canada Trail in Nelson Creek Park, but if you are indeed wearing someone else's shoes, make sure you tie them good and tight for your hike up this trail. Though not as strenuous as Deep Thoughts - In the Forest, some parts of this trail are steep and can often be a little slippery. It would be a shame if you were to hurt yourself and have to cut your visit short.
As you approach GZ you will find yourself at a junction where a couple of my favourite trails branch off, and there are more geocaches along either of these trails to whet your appetite. The Nelson Creek Trail that winds its way up the hill to the right will have you huffing & puffing through the thick green forest as you climb up toward Eagle Lake. Here & there amongst these old trees you will discover an occasional rock outcropping where you can sit & think while you enjoy tremendous views of the city, the harbour, and beyond.
Down the gentle switchback to your left is the Whyte Lake Trail, a beautiful gem of a hike through old-growth forest. Scenic Whyte Lake provides a welcome resting spot where you can sit and think for a while, or just take a quick break for some water and a snack before you head up to Black Mountain, or descend to Horseshoe Bay. There is even a nifty kybo not far from Whyte Lake if you really gotta go...
Keep in mind you are under fairly heavy tree cover at GZ so you'll need to let your GPSr settle down. You do not have to step off the trail to grab this cache. You are looking for a camo-taped 1kg peanut butter jar. Please trade fairly and rehide the container as you found it, or better. And as always, keep thinking Deep Thoughts!
