Geocache Description:


This is another multi cache for the challenge. I hope you learn something about the Marietta Confederate Cemetery while completing this multi cache. The coordinates above will take you to stage 1. The final coordinates for the cache is: N 33° AB.CDE W 084° FG.HIJ Stage 1. You find yourself in front of a sign. On this sign you can find the answers to A, B, C, D and E. A= Bushy Park Plantation accommodated the burial of approximately 20 Confederate soldiers from the __ 0th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. B= The 20 Confederate soldiers die in a train wreck North of Marietta on September 13, 18__3. C= In 1910, an act of Congress returned Marietta’s “Little Cannon” to the cemetery from an arsenal in Watervilet, New York,. Captured near Savannah in 1864, its __ pounder barrel had originally been cast before the war for the Georgia Military Institute’s use. D= The Confederate Soldiers Home section includes the grave of Bill Yopp, African-American drummer for the __ __th Georgia Infantry Regiment. (Take the two numbers and add them together). E= The greatest expansion of the cemetery took place after the war. In 1866, the Georgia Legislature appropriated $3,500 to collect the remains of Confederate soldiers who fell elsewhere and bring them to Marietta for reburial. How many ladies spearheaded the recovery efforts? Stage 2. (N 33 56.751 W 084 32.938) You will find yourself in front of a Historic sign. You will have to read the sign to find your answers to F and G. F= __,000 Confederate dead from every southern state are buried in this cemetery. G= The 3rd number in the “Marker number.” (The Maker number is the number at the bottom left of the Historic sign.) Stage 3. (N 33 56.754 W 084 32.937) You will find the answer to H here. H= Erected and Dedicated, by Kennesaw Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Marietta, Georgia. 19__8. Stage 4. (N 33 56.754 W 084 32.932 ) Here you find the answer to I and J. I= You are now looking at “Little Cannon”. Look close and find the First number of the Cannon. The little Cannon is no longer there. The number on the cannon was 27. So I= 2. J= This little Cannon Served at the Georgia Milltary Institute from 1852 to 186__.
