Geocache Description:

This traditional Lock N Lock container is a clear blue and white. There are two places to park. One is at the beginning of Stackyard RD (N 42 min 44.476' W 70 min 51.187') a little over a mile from Sawyer Island. The walk along the dirt road (Palmos Rd.) has beautiful views of the salt marsh. You can also park, if you are in a hurry, at the edge of Sawyer Island next to the Essex Greenbelt Association Sign.

Sawyer's Island sits in the marshes of Plum Island Sound, one of the most pristine marsh systems in the United States. Much of the land surrounding the island is protected by Greenbelt or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The site of the former Salem Boys Camp, the island is bordered by Sawyer Creek and Mud Creek, which curves around its northern end. The views in every direction are spectacular, and the details within the panorama are a delight. Stands of oak and hickory on the northwest edge of the island provide a lovely sheltered camping spot (permission required) or picnic area.

In the cache are typical trading items, a log book, a pencil, and the description of what geocaching is. The Essex county Greenbelt Association gave permission to place the cache on their property. A trail map is available at: (visit link)
