Geocache Description:

PLEASE REMEMBER CACHEIN AND TRASHOUT

Silver Sioux is one of my favorite Cherokee County Parks. It is a
well developed park with camping, picnicking, etc. Water and
facilities are available. Hunting is allowed in season here so
dress accordingly. Silver Sioux Park is at the confluence of the
Little Sioux River and Silver Creek, hence the name. The Little
Sioux River is an excellent canoeing river, especially in Cherokee
County. I know because I have canoed most of it. The Little Sioux
also has an excellent catfish population. Also much wildlife is
located near the river. Fishing is excellent where Silver Sioux
enters the Little Sioux River so bring a pole if so inclined. There
are also a number of other caches located along the Little Sioux in
different parks, or near them, in most of the counties the Little
Sioux Flows through. Many thanks to the Cherokee County
Conservation Board for approving the placement of this series of
caches. Also please remember “CITO”.

Although a well developed park the “top” is a natural
tall grass prairie. There is a trail that goes around the perimeter
of the grass and although it was always a very scenic hike, has
become even more so in the past couple of years thanks to the work
of the conservation board. I have hiked all of the parks in Cherokee
county and most in NW Iowa and this one ranks right up there with
the best. Ideally you would start with # 1 and work your way
around. There are many more caches on top along the trail. The
best parking is at:

N 42° 38.954

W 095° 35.622

Take the Oak Ridge trail for the shortest trip to the top. Take the
Little Creek Spur for a walk across a footbridge. Follow
counterclockwise in numerical order and they are all a very short
distance from the trail loop. This cache located just off the trail with minimal
bushwhacking required.
