This cache honors the PM-3A nuclear power plant and all the people who were involved in the many phases of its life.
The PM-3A nuclear power plant came online on March 4, 1962. It operated with a 72% availability rate until September 1972. PM-3A was decommissioned in May 1979. It was the first and only nuclear power plant to operate in the Antarctic.
The cache is a standard Geocache branded Pelican box with a transparent lid. It contains a number of patches, stickers, a log book and a few pencils.
It is located in an area that is likely to be clear of snow buildup, so it should be accessible year round; however it can be very icy. Please stay clear of any equipment or cables that may be on the ground in the area.
