One morning, you wake up to find a message waiting for you in your voice mail from last night:
"Hey buddy. It’s Mort. You gotta help me. I’m out at Stigler Nature Preserve. I was looking for a place to hide a new cache and I went out after dark. My GPS batteries died, so I don’t know exactly where I am and my flashlight batteries died, too, so I can’t even try to find my way out in this dark. Look, I gotta talk quick, ‘cause my phone looks like it’s about to die, too. I think I can talk you in to finding where I am.
From the coordinates in the parking lot, head down the main path until you come to a point about 0.1 miles SSW of the trailhead. You should be near a junction with another path where you’ll see a trail marker. Mark this point on your GPS.
Next, head down the path to your right until you come to another junction about 0.3 miles Due West from the first marker. There should be a clearing directly in front of you. Mark this point with your GPS but don’t go across the clearing. I saw some Private Property signs there.
The main trail goes to the left, but there’s another trail that heads in the opposite direction. Follow that one Due North instead. In about 425 feet, stop and turn to your right.
You should see a deer path going into the trees. Head Due East down this path about 60 feet. I had to hide back here because the wind is howling. I’m only about 20 feet North of there.
Hurry, I don’t know how long I can last…"
What?! Now it’s morning and Mort never came back. You better go and see if you can find him.
