Where the Buffalo (Bison) Roam Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

aspendreamer: I recently checked on the physical status of this cache. I found that the 1st and 3rd stage of the cache is missing. I removed the second stage. I am sorry to say that I am not in a position to replace this cache. I have enjoyed reading the messages cachers have posted. I may be able to replace this cache at a later date. Until then if another cacher wants to place a cache in that area, I am sure the effort will be enjoyed by the caching community. My thanks to all who have visited my cache. Happy Caching!

Geocache Description:

An easy multi-cache along the Lincoln Highway west of the town of Schellsburg.

This is my first cache hide. This cache is placed with the owner's permission. It is located along the Lincoln Highway (Route 30) west of Schellsburg. The name of the cache gives you the general area to start your hunt.

*"The American Bison is not the true buffalo. The closest relatives are the European Bison (Wisent) and the Canadian Woods Bison, not the Buffalo of Asia or Africa, such as the Cape Buffalo or Water Buffalo.Scientifically, the American Buffalo is named Bison bison and belongs to Bovidae family of mammals as do domestic cattle."

*Taken from 'The Bison Corral' brochure.

If you come from the west you can start looking for the bison on your way to the cache. When coming from the east bison sightings are after the cache. If no bison can be seen from Route 30 stop at the store and the helpful folks there can let you know where to find them.

The folks permitting the placement of this cache have been very friendly and cooperative. Please be respectful. Please NO NIGHT HUNTING as this is on private property.

Please be cautious while watching the bison. They are WILD ANIMALS and are faster and more agile than they appear. DO NOT attempt to interact with the bison. Bison prefer to be alone so keep your distance. This is especially true when calves are present as bison are very protective of their young.

I rated this hide a 1.5 only because there are 2 stages. Both stages are very easy. Hope you enjoy the hunt.

Please note on your journey from either direction on the Lincoln Highway you can see some beautiful murals. The murals across from the cache site are on three sides of the barn. These and many other murals are all along the Lincoln Highway depicting a by-gone era.

An added note: There is a letterbox hidden on the property as well. It is clearly marked as a letterbox so there should be no confusion with the geocache.

PLEASE DO NOT DAMAGE THE CONTAINERS TO RETRIEVE THE 'log'. This is a two stage cache and cachers should complete both stages to sign the log.

Congratulations to LT Silverfox: First to Find!

Congratulations to martinlfjr: Second to Find!
